Nursery School
Our teaching philosophy
Our teachers strive to help each child develop his or her abilities. By observing each child at work and play, the teachers are able to lead the child toward activities that will best develop skills, to work individually with the child in exploring new areas, and to identify special needs.
Parents are informed about their child's progress through informal and formal parent/teacher conferences, as well as a monthly newsletter.
Our goals
- To encourage social skills -- learning to play and cooperate with others.
- To develop large and small motor skills.
- To encourage creativity.
- To develop constructive thinking.
- To improve language skills.
- To develop an appreciation for music and rhythm.
- To encourage acceptance of responsibility.
- To help each child to develop self-confidence.
- To prepare the child for kindergarten.

Our teachers
Ellie Biddle and Regi Carpernter joined the Ellis Hollow Nursery School as our teachers in 2007.
Ellie was already a familiar face at the nursery school, having been a parent and board member. She has a bachelor's degree, has been a substitute in the Ithaca City School District, and is an active volunteer at Caroline Elementary.
Regi is a mom, children's performer, and preschool teacher. She has training in the Wolf Trap Aesthetic Education for Preschoolers and the Lincoln Center for Arts in Education and is a certified NYS preschool-6th grade teacher.
